What's Santiago like?

Today's post is going to be about what we discussed in class last time. The idea is that you share your viewpoint and/or critical opinion on Santiago.
You could write about the elements of urban design, such as:
  • buildings
  • public space
  • streets
  • transport
  • lanscape
Get some further ideas on http://www.urbandesign.org/elements.html
If you want to mention advantages and disadvantages of living in Santiago, you can be part of the solution by offering some ideas worth spreading. That's to say, how can we make Santiago a smarter city? Get some ideas here https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-ten-elements-required-for-making-a-smart-city

A quality post should have no less than 200 words this time. And remember to leave comments as usual.

Your Problem Is My Problem Too

Santiago, the capital of Chile, is home to almost 6 million people. It is a province that includes 36 other communes (big neighbourhoods), and a commune itself , known as 'Santiago centro' (Santiago city centre).
It is the urban core par excellence, as it concentrates the biggest number of amenities and public services in Chile. This is the main reason why Santiago is a highly densely populated city,
as anyone who wants to improve his/her opportunities in life will inevitably migrate to these promising areas. Any densely populated city is expected to have  a given number of problems. And Santiago is no exception to the rule. Over the last years, the transport system, called 'transantiago', has received harsh criticism in the public eye. Most poeple do not like the system because they think that it does not have what it needs to fulfill 'basic human expectations'. Most complaints are related to a more friendly-user access to information, the pitiable condition of buses, long waits at overcrowded bus stops, and also long commuting times to and from work to mention just a few.
Some urban planning experts have pointed out that Santiago's biggest problem has to do with the very conception of the city planning, coming from the 70's. In other words, Santiago is a poorly integrated city because it was meant to be segregated: the poor lives among the poor, and the rich lives among the rich.
Santiago is currently facing big challenges to cope with the upcoming changes. Unfortunately, important decisions must be made to solve long-standing problems. Then, urban planning, in my opinion, should not be addressed to favour just a few; but, on the contrary, it should be adressed as 'your problem is my problem too'.

  2. It is necessary to apply changes to the public transportation here in Santiago. It can´t be possible that every single day some people have to suffer several minutes or even hours travelling crowded and uncomfortable.

  3. It's so sad that the city couldn't bring people together.

  4. The transport system is quite bad and easily collapses, be it the subway or transantiago

Knowledge, or not knowledge,  that is the question   Okay, this is gonna sound very repetitive. I'll try to be as creative as I can to rephrase the idea I've been insisting on throughout all my blog posts: I'd love to continue studying. Why? because there's no way I could continue working in this field without constantly updating my Knowledge -by Knowledge, I obviously mean something more...

(A Dissapointing Rhetoric Post)   Back in the day, I would have liked to be much more prepared to face my study programme. I think I would have had a thoroughly different attitude towards what I studied; my teachers/professors; and, obviously, my classmates.  However, I feel the need to say that I am thankful for what I got because I wouldn't be most certainly the person I am now without it. You know that there's always som...
